Forklift truck drivers don’t need formal academic qualifications, however, practical skills in English and Maths do help, as well as having the skills that help FLT drivers succeed.

Before forklift drivers can begin practising their trade, they need a forklift licence. Most employers usually arrange the training for this, however, there are courses available to those looking to gain their licence before starting a job. Accredited courses can be found via the Accrediting Bodies Association – Workplace Transport (ABA) website.
A lot of employers also offer apprenticeships, so depending on the industry, you could gain skills and qualifications in other areas as well as getting an FLT licence.
