Heywoods Unit 1

The following hygiene standards apply to all staff working or entering the Warehouse, Packing Room & Production Facility in Heywoods Unit 1. This policy relates to all staff including temporary staff entering the above areas.

Do not enter any of the areas unless this Warehouse, Packing and Production Hygiene Policy is complied with.

This is a nut free site – both tree nuts and peanuts. Do not bring any products containing nuts onto site, including in milks, chocolates, chocolate bars, breads, cereal bars or peanut butter etc.

The production area is an allergen free facility. Do not bring in any products containing any of the 14 allergens into the facility:

  • Celery
  • Cereals containing gluten
  • Crustaceans
  • Egg
  • Fish
  • Lupin
  • Milk
  • Molluscs
  • Mustard
  • Peanuts
  • Sesame
  • Soya
  • Sulphur dioxide / sulphites
  • Tree nuts

The above includes any food brought in by staff, visitors or contractors.

Staff are required to contact their line manager by telephone (not text etc) to advise of any absence from work due to sickness or illness.

Due to the type of materials being stored, it is essential that the following rules are adhered to:

  • Under no circumstances should anyone suffering from diarrhoea or sickness attend work until free of symptoms for at least 48 hours.
  • Anyone suffering from diarrhoea and/or sickness whilst at work must report this to their line manager immediately.
  • Anyone who has any contagious or infectious disease or has been in close contact with anyone infected must not come to site and must inform their line manager.
  • After absence due to sickness or illness the company Return to Work Form must be completed prior to commencing work.

Always wear safety boots or shoes and high visibility jackets as provided or authorised by the company.

Production staff must wear all PPE provided as detailed in the Food Handlers Hygiene Training Record PR07.

All personal items such as money, foodstuffs, mobile phones and ear buds must not be brought into the warehouse, packing room or production area. Lockers are provided for staff use.

Senior managers are the only personnel allowed to take mobile phones into the warehouse, production or packing areas for business purposes.

All visitors including drivers who require access to toilets must report to a member of warehouse staff who will escort them.

Hand Washing Requirements

Always wash your hands with soap and water:

  • After all breaks, particularly meal breaks
  • Prior to entering the production facility
  • After visiting the toilet
  • After blowing your nose
  • After sneezing
  • After smoking or vaping
  • After handling shoes
  • After handling waste
  • If hands become dirty

Please use hand sanitiser from the dispenser provided each time on entering the warehouse, packing room and production area. These areas are low risk food areas.

Personal Hygiene

  • Fingernails must be kept short, clean and unvarnished.
  • False fingernails and nail art are not permitted.
  • Rings and studs in exposed parts of the body such as ears, noses, eyebrows and tongue must not be worn.
  • Excessive perfume or aftershave must not be worn.

Staff who wear glasses or contact lenses must inform HR and Technical immediately if they are broken, damaged or lost in the warehouse, packing or production areas due to potential foreign body risk.

No jewellery is allowed in the warehouse, production or packing facilities. All jewellery and watches must be removed before entering these areas.

Plain wedding bands (no stones) or medical alert jewellery are permitted with prior notification to Technical or HR.

Food, Smoking and Personal Conduct

  • Eating, drinking and chewing gum are permitted only in the designated staff kitchen.
  • This is a no smoking site.
  • Smoking or vaping must take place outside the perimeter fencing on the street.

Injuries and First Aid

All cuts and grazes on exposed skin must be covered with company supplied dressings which are waterproof, contain a metal detectable strip and are blue in colour.

In addition to the blue plaster, a blue glove must be worn in the production area.

These are issued from the company registered first aider. A first aid box and eye wash station are located outside the production area.

All accidents must be reported to your line manager and recorded in the company accident book.

Any boils, rashes or skin eruptions must be reported to your line manager before entering or commencing work.

Glass, Medicines and Personal Items

Under no circumstances are glass or brittle plastics to be introduced into the warehouse, packing or production facility from personal belongings.

Medicines are not allowed in the warehouse, production or packing facilities.

Any medicines required must be stored in the lockers provided. If medicines must be kept with you for medical reasons, please inform Technical and HR in advance.
