CAD Technician/Estimator

The CAD Technician / Estimator (Mechanical Projects) is responsible for producing accurate mechanical CAD drawings and supporting bid estimates. The role will interpret project specifications and drawings, perform quantity/material takeoffs as needed, and prepare estimate support documentation to help the company deliver competitive, buildable mechanical project pricing.

THE CANDIDATE

• Produce and maintain 2D and/or 3D mechanical CAD drawings (layouts, fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and related documentation as required).
• Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify scope and requirements.
• Carry out quantity takeoffs and/or support estimating with material and labor assumptions (as required by the business).
• Assist with BOM development and estimate pack preparation (including drawing sets and supporting documentation).
• Support mechanical estimating for areas such as equipment, pipework, ductwork, supports/frames, and installation interfaces (depending on project scope).
• Maintain revision control and ensure bid and project drawings are issued correctly.
• Prepare RFQs and support vendor/subcontractor quotations where required.
• Work closely with engineers, project managers, and sales to clarify requirements and ensure estimates are accurate and buildable.

THE CANDIDATE:

• Proficient with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks (or other relevant CAD software).
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications.
• Demonstrated experience in mechanical drafting and strong drafting standards.
• Estimating support experience (takeoffs/BOM support) is preferred.
• Strong communication skills, organisation, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

THE SALARY AND HOURS:

• Hours of Work: 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM, Monday to Friday
• Salary: From £30,000 (dependent on experience)
